Hi Guys,
I know their is probably a good thread on here about finding, removing, replacing the bad backup sensor. I would like to know how to remove them and check them. Also, what is the part number and best place to buy them for 2004 Explorer XLT.

i'll see if i can find that old post that talks about part number. If you find it the $8 ones are long gone. I've added the OEM after the fact its a standalone unit.
Option one - buy one sensor ($30-40 now) and swap them in one at a time. I don't think there is a way to test individually.
Option two - Dealer can hook up a scanner and tell you which one.

to get to them the whole bumper has to come off.

Take a look at this forum link below in case you haven't seen it yet. Post #1 by "Gsmaclean". Hope it helps.

Friday night i tore the back apart and checked all the wires. Still didn't work so I figured a sensor was bad. I didn't dare just by one sensor because if two are bad or something else is wrong i wouldn't of know. So I called the dealer and they wanted $100 to scan it and tell me what is wrong. I called a little garage and he agreed to do it for $40. Left side sensor was bad. So i got on ebay and found one for $40 and it's on the way.

Put it In R with engine off and parking brake on... The good ones should click, replace the one/two that don't.

Let us know if it works...

Thank u sooo much. Engine off, in reverse, parking brake on. All the good ones click. I grabbed 2from my last trip to the junkyard but I didn't know which ones were bad. 3/4 clicked. Changed the bad one and it works great. Sorry if I seem excited but I've had my 03 since 08 and the rss never worked. I wished it worked b4 I backed into a pole!!!
