- 2000 Jeep XJ Lifted
Don't have an explorer, but I have a line on a set of 3rd generation Explorer steel wheels and I'm not sure if they are what I need.
Do the 3rd generation steel or alloy Explorer wheels have a low backspacing like 02 and older Crown Vics? I am looking for a "RWD offset" wheel like the older Crown Vics have. Now a "FWD Offset" wheel like the newer crown vics and Jeep liberties have.
I have a 2000 XJ Cherokee with 215 85R16 tires on it.
When I lifted it first, I had 00 crown vic PI steel wheels. I liked the offset, but the wheels would touch the fender when articulating:
So I bought Jeep liberty wheels that are "FWD" and stick in a bit more:
I bought a set of 01 towncar wheels, alloy for my winter tires (also 215 85R16) and like the backspacing on them ... a bit wider track is nicer for the off camber sitautions:
Are the 3rd generation Explorers with IRS going to have wheels that have the same affect as the Crown Vic PI and towncar wheels, or will they be like the Liberty wheels?
Yes - I can order 16'' wheels online, but much cheaper to pay $20 a wheel at the local pick and pull yard. Plus it's hard to find a 16x7 wheel with low backspacking that isn't 8 or 9'' wide.
Thanks!
