I just got a 97 XLT it has the 235/75/15s on it, and was wondering what the backspacing was. I had an old 96 cherokee with some "nice" 15's I figured I might swap them until I could get some money for some new wheels. I know the jeep has a 4.75" backspacing if that helps. TIA.

It's great to finally be a member, I've been lurking in the darkness for sometime, but finally got my explorer. Hell of a forum you guys have built for yourselves!

Welcome!

Stock BS is 4.5". Anything more is too much. IMO the best BS for the Explorer is 3.75".

Jason, I have tried to fit Jeep wheels on an Explorer myself. The lug pattern is the same, and the backspacing is close enough, but they won't fit because of the hub bore. It's too small on the Jeep. You could possibly have the bore machined out, but then you'd have to find a custom center cap for the larger bore......
