I found the post that has a video with a 4.0 Explorer and its bad IAC making that "woooo" sound. It's doing it at idle....my '99 4.0 will NEVER make the sound at idle. It will ONLY do it after driving and coming to a stop (like when I get off of the highway, it does it pretty often) Still sound like an IAC or any reason behind its temperament?

Sounds like its time to clean it or better yet, replace it.

Good luck ....

Yeah Al, I was considering a thorough cleaning, but then I kept reading all of those posts which mentioned problems and more noise after the cleaning. Guess it can't hurt anything, right?

What do you think, I have MAF specific cleaner and throttle body/carb cleaner.

Personally I have never had any luck cleaning an IAC. I just replace them.

How old is your questionable IAC?

Al as far as I know it's the original, 82,000 miles. I just purchased the truck a month ago since I missed my last Ranger and had wonderful luck with past Ford trucks.

Advance Auto has 2 different-brand IAC's...A Niehoff, which I have no experience with for $60 or a Standard, which I have sold and dealt with extensively for $120. Actually, BOTH have a 1 yr. warranty. Niehoff it will be if replacement is deemed necessary!

You should be fine with either.

Be sure to get a new gasket.

Thanks AL...Anthony
