I have a bad lamp on the Drivers side of my '02 Explorer. The bulb is good, but still no light... Has anyone seen a common problem on this?

Thanks in Advance....

I have the same fault

Does your drivers door, lock unlock switch work when the truck is shut off? I also have a problem of the inside lights will stay on, but no door ajar light come up on the dash.

On mine the blk/wht wire inside has a connector that might be a lil loose you gotta jiggle it a bit or wrap it tight with some electrical tape

The drivers door functions all work normally, except the puddle lamp. Locks, windows, door ajar light, radio plays with ignition off until you open the door, etc. I was hoping for a common problem on them... mabye something someone else has seen alot of.

I have the same problem with my puddle lamp and i can wiggle the harness boot in the door jamb and the light will come back on. i do however have a problem with my interior lights and door locks and keyless entry not working when the dimmer switch is on. i have no idea if thats related to the loose wire in the door or what. if anyone has some input on that, it would be great.

I think it's a pretty good bet that fixing the shorting wire in the door will fix all of your issues. Let us know.:D

well, my problems are fixed. I peeled the boot away from the d/s door and where it mounts to the car and inspected all the wires in there. I did find a black wire that was completely cut among others that you could see the plastic sheathing on the outside starting to crack. I repaired the black wire by extending it about 4 inches and but connecting it to the existing wire. that took care of everything. Hopefully you will find something like that causing your problem. Im just glad i didnt have to pull the door panel. Took me about 10 minutes. good luck and thanks for your help

My 1998 XLT 4.0L SOHC 4wd 4dr had exactly the same problem: driver side puddle lights failed due to broken wire. Thanks to this thread I was able to quickly track down the problem and repair it - thanks guys.

In my case it was a black/pink wire that had broken about midway between the door and the door frame. I'd agree that the cause of the break was probably fatigue from flexing rather than from any contact with sharp edges. I ended up pulling down the boot on the door side to fish out the door side stub, then pulling up the boot on the door frame side to fish out the frame side stub. The only dicey part was fishing the new patch wire through the boot. I ended up using a short section of stiff 12ga wire as a fish tape to pull through my smaller gage patch wire.

Thanks again.

I have the same thing on my 2002 xlt. Maybe I will try doing that this weekend.

Thanks!!

For my 2000 Eddie Bauer it was a black/pink wire that was broken inside the rubber boot in between the drivers door and the body frame. I added a same gauge wire and made it about 6 inches longer. Connected both ends with crimp on but connectors.

Thanks for all of the help on this forum guys. You made trouble shooting this very easy!
