i have a 2004 explorer sporttrac it had the cheap single disc plain black radio.
a friend was trading his 02 explorer sport in and it had the silver i think pioneer six disc in dash changer. before the 02 sport sounded great and the 04 sporttrac sounded good but always seemed to be muddy with the bass unless turned all the way down. since the swap the 02 sounded good but the 04 it nothing but highs no bass at all i have the bass turned all the way up and the treble turned down. is the some thing i can do short of installing a sub or getting a new radio.

I'm guessing at this one, because I don't have any specific diagrams, but I'm thinking that the radio you have from your friend's car isn't fully compatible with yours. The Pioneer sound system might be a type of premium option and had some kind of external amp and sub somewhere.

Are the wiring harnesses the same, or did you have to adapt them?

plugged right in his truck had an extra plug but don't i remember, now how many wires but i don't think it was many. the sub in his truck does play, my first thought was that it was designed for the sub. but if so i just need the pin out for the sub ill add a line level converter and put a ten under the seat. i would like to keep this head unit so i at least would need to know what wires the sub was on.
