I have never heard any high pitched or any other type of sound after shutting down my Explorer. I just went out to the garage, started it up , let it run a minute or so and shut it down. Put my foot on the brake and nothing. Absolute quiet. Just the way it has been for the 11 months I've had it and I always park in the garage when at home.I think you guys are confusing things here. I get the high pitch sound in my explorer when I park it in the garage. Try this:
1. Park the truck, push engine off, take foot off brake. Listen, should be nothing.
2. Now just put your foot on the brake. Listen, you will hear the sound.
I think it is a booster pump or something getting ready for you to start the truck. If you take your foot off the brake and let it sit for about 5 minutes, it will stop because it times out on you starting the car.
Not saying others haven't had an issue here, but it sounds normal to me.
The Explorer does have a Fast Restart feature that will allow you to start it without the IA key being around. Within 20 seconds of turning it off without the IA key around, you can restart by putting your foot on the brake and pressing the Start button.
I hardly think this is what is causing the problem because you would have your IA key with you.
I would think that a vehicle making a high pitched sound upon being turned off, has a problem somewhere. It is not normal, IMO.
