Bad speedometer.

hi i have a 94 xlt Explorer. In streets am going 35 but the speedometer shows am going 30 (i know this due to my GPS) and when I get into the highway it goes crazy over 55 and the stick goes upto D, sometimes depends and how fast I accelerate..what could be the problem?

....A speedo gear and if you click the "How to" in my signature, you will find info on how to replace it..
