My XLT is a 5-speed manual and when I get around 55 and above, I am in 5th grear. When I watched the speedometer, I noticed the needle would be floating. When accelerating, if would hit 55 and drop to 65 in a second. When driving, if I were to hit a small bump, the needle would bob up and down. Its hard to tell if im doing 65 or 75.

Any suggestion on how to fix this? Or just replace it.

This is common, and there is info posted here. I believe the culprit is a bad speedo cable, but you should search just to make sure...

they all do it ...mine does it after 65.need either new speedo head / cable / speed sensor gear .

edit: when i had 2 things done to my truck ( transmission rebuid and speedo head removed)
1st... when i had my speedo head out i noticed that the ends of the cable were a little
rounded (where it clips into the head) that made me think that it was the cable.

2nd... when i got my truck back from the shop for my transmission ( after the speedo
head removel time) i noticed that the speedo did not hop any more ...steady as
could be till it started doing it a month later ...makeing methink it was the gear .

hope this helps
