Bad TC or Valve Body ?? A4LD

Have been searching the forum, so far have not come across anything that seems to be similar to the condition that I've got,

Picked up a 91 XL, 4L, Auto, 298k, 4wd,

Body's rough, but otherwise appears to have been maintained (alt,radius bushings,etc.)

managed to get it onto the trailer, in 4wd, seems like the torque converter is stuck in lock up to me, just wanted to pass it around and see if anyone else figures as much, once it finally engages it will move (forward at least) as soon as you brake -dies like it's stuck in lockup, will not even go into reverse at all... It'll have a slow engagement before it goes into reverse then dies... Anyone had this issue before or come across it? Thanks for any help

The lockup is electronically controlled. as a troubleshooting method, i'd try unplugging the 3 wire plug on the left side of the trans (above the shift linkage) those 3 wires control the electronic shift into overdrive, as well as the TCC lockup.

Sounds good, will try tomorrow night.. hopefully won't be as cold or snowy though ... already -20C and snow covering the explorer....
