ball joint job at sears...

hehe these spindles are easy compared to the bearing hubs on the newer super duties.... i just took apart an F-350 SD front axle and it took me 4 hours of beating prying, WD-40ing, and yes air chiseling to get it out.... the nuts on the newer ones are on the other side by the universal joints and are not easy to get to. It gets to a point when you start realizing that the price the ford dealer asked is almost worth it just in stress....

Why naturally.. it always seems the bigger and heavier the parts the harder it is to take apart. in reality these explorers are actually pretty easy to work on for the most part.

yeah i agree that they are easy to work on.... just venting....now i have to go home and put it all back together.

Not Sears, but......

I got the call from the repair shop, it's gonna cost me $356.16 (incl's tx & alignment) for both lower ball joints. Sure beats $534.69 (incl's tx & alignment) from my local Firestone/Bridgestone dealer!

you got a helluva deal 4 balljoint and alignment for 317 bucks!

I think he said he had the drivers side done, not all 4 balljoints

oh, that makes more sense, now i don't feel so bad

wow , now i dont feel bad for having to pay 100 bucks for lower ball joint replacement and a steering rack :burnout:

I think its kinda silly to just replace just one.. when I go through that much effort of tearing everything apart I put in upper and lower balljoints on both sides all at once.. But I guess when you are paying someone else to do it, it's a different story.

Exactly!...It never made sense to me either.. Sort of like asking your dentist to only clean every other tooth... :p
