Hello I have a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer which is essentially a Ford Explorer. The problem that I'm having is with the Ball joints upper and lower ball joints. I recently got the ball joints replaced about three years ago. Now the ball joints squeak almost out-of-control inmost weather except for when it's raining. What can be causing this? Also for period of about a month and a half they didn't squeak it all whether it was raining or drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

I would say that they don't squeak when it's raining because the water acts as a lubricant.

Doubt it's the ball joints since the squeaking stops when it rains, and they are usually
sealed from water. Lift each tire individually by the lower control arm and check for play.
Usual suspects for squeaks are dry bushings contacting metal. Spray lube the sway bar
frame bushings and the lower and upper control arm bushings first. Bad end links and
tie rods will usually make a knocking sound. Inspect them while you are down there. GL

Take to oil/lube shop and have them greased.

Squeaking which comes and goes might be a good thing. It indicates the offending parts haven't busted apart, yet.......;) imp
