First off hi everyone, This is one of my first threads .
Ive recently bought a 94 explorer xlt 4x4 and im looking to make some inprovements im going to be adding new tires im thinking "30"s or 31"s what ever will fit without a lift. Im looking to ad a little more power to this 4.0 its not verry responsive and i no it has more potential. so any tips, tricks or improvements would be great.

good tune up above all else will do wonders but if your looking for a little more ,

-air intake + performance air filter
-gas peddle modification ( free "$" horse power...easy to do also lol ! )
-gear set ( u may want to do this after the bigger diameter tires if not your
mpg will suck ( please no comments everyone)
-aux transmission cooler ( if not already there from the factory and also if you
have a automatic a4ld (( if you do you already have the best a4ld ford made
with all the updates to the transmission, you can not overcool the units
they hate heat !)) and a good spin on type filter .
-exhaust system or muffler

...i'm sure everyone will chime in on what they think but ,the stuff i covered imo is a good ruff outline that may give you a little more performance all the way around . :salute:

i read the stickey about the gas peddle mod but i did not fully understand it

It's not a "Mod", it's a fix for a sloppy/slack filled throttle cable. Basically bringing the tension back to what it was when coming out of the factory.

opps i guess i should have said " fix" instead of "mod" :p:

thanks for playing games with the grammer i just wanted some one to better explain how to do it. that would be greatly apprecieated.

after years of pressing on the peddle the cable that runs to the throttle body gets a little longer and is stretched out more ...the fix is easy ...got some zip ties ?? under the dash you can see the cable ( 2 cables ones for the kickdown for the transmission) the bracket has a spring on the end of the cable.zip tie around the cable between the spring and the peddle arm.this takes the slack out of the throttle cable so when the gas is pushed the engine will SEEM like it has more power and is responding better but it's really where it should have already have been ...so your just putting it back to factory lenghts. mine was like night and day differance.

but if you have already read the thread for it i dont think i can explain it any better to you ...i did mine this way by readng the thread and no games intended ... "mod"..."fix" same thing in my book .

Spark plugs, k&n drop in unless you livenin a dusty area, exhaust, throttle cable MOD(yes it is) and throttle bar mod, go with 30's if you want no rubbing bit it isn't as cool as 31-33's and a lift.

Change your oil frequently if you go with a k&n.

oh and please remember to post future threads concerning the MODification of 91-94 explorers in the modified 91-94 explorers section.

Thank you and welcome.

....was this directed at me ?

thanks man.. my 4x4 wasnt working when i bought the truck and today i wanted to get it working so long story short one of the 2 cables plugging into the 4x4 module wasnt pluged in. im so freaking happy it works. i took it out muddin today fun stuff. :D

...Check out the "How to" in my signature for a whole lot of answers...:D

the advice was derected at any New members but namley mascoradium.

And good job gettin the 4xworkin! Have fun mudding but be careful. Things can get hairy quik!

And I still DEFINATLEY suggest a lift. You can get two-ish inches preety cheap.

Here's a pic for you to visualize it. Basically, you want the blade in the throttle body to be horizontal at wide open throttle (often referred to as WOT), ie. when the pedal is to the floor. Just double check to make sure that if you put a couple zip ties on, that you're getting that blade horizontal at WOT, if not, add more zip ties or until the pedal is not floppy. Take off the air intake tube and get someone to floor the pedal with the truck off. The throttle cable is the one on the left.
