Yesterday I stop at a store and turn ign off go in. come back out completely dead, no lights, dash, buzzer etc. after 3 or for turns it starts like there was never a problem. but all electrical was reset. any rhyme or reason here? Been working fine since? 2002 XLT 4.0 stock ??

First thing to do is make sure all the battery connections are clean. If you run into the problem again, turn on the headlights and start testing for voltage at connections both power and grounds. Where ever you read 12 volts across a connection, the contact is bad. An example, if you read voltage from the battery post to the cable clamp around it, the connection is bad. It may be noted here that the negative battery connector on these vehicles is a bit too large and can be easily moved after the bolt is tightened. I have shim stock around my post to ensure a good connection. This issue could be also caused by the battery manufacturer.
