At high revs (5000 - 6000) my battery light comes, flickering. I don't have much of a stereo system and no extra running lights or anything like that yet. I was thinking maybe my alternator is going, any ideas? How would I test this? Thnx for any info.

So you are reving this thing to 5k or 6k. At this point I would definatly look at alternator. When does this things rev limiter kick in? At that rpm probably the alt is failing and charging system and it's not charging the battery properly. Then again Rev limiters are put there to save engines and any belt drivin excessories. At 6k that alt was not designed to see that much or often.

Mine regularly sees 6500 RPM (probably 3 or 4 times a day) and has never had a problem with the battery light coming on. Then again I have the SOHC which was made to rev higher than his OHV.

ok, it actually does this from 4-5000rpm...I am used to engines running higher when the needle is at the point.

The light didn't come on at all today up in that range, it was a bit cooler today. You think that would make a diff?

I had the same problem with my 96 ohv. The battery light came on sometimes on any rpm. I replaced the Alternator with a used one from a wrecker. That fixed the problem.

Just because it can, doesn't mean it should. ;) Every now and then, sure. 3 or 4 times a day? All I can say is you're braver than me. I feel like I'm being mean to the engine if I push it to 5K.

my ohv rev lim nails 5200 thats it....

It's because you're use to the OHV . On my normal commute, mine doesn't see more than 2500 RPM.:D

so overall: check wiring, to/from alternator, and check battery other than that, ya got me.....

I'm about to turn over 99K. When I first bought it, I set a goal that I would be happy if I could go to 100K without any major powertrain work. I've now been thinking about upping my goal to 150K. I've already made it 10K farther than my Wife's '93 Sable with far fewer problems with comparible city MPG. I'm starting to think that maybe mine likes to be driven hard:cool:

  Since when can the SOHC go past 6k?! Mine has a fuel-shutoff at 6K and that's it. How did you get the SOHC to rev higher?

*Edit* Err, never noticed the superchip there. How much better does the superchip make your engine perform? Apparently it ups the redline

The item most improved by my SuperChip is my transmission. It shifts much quicker with a slight jolt now. No slipping between shifts like it did when stock. It will also downshift directly to the needed gear when passing rather than having to take the scenic route through each gear until it gets down to the needed gear.

It helped my engine somewhat. The power increase is noticeable from idle to redline. It did raise my rev limiter to about 6500 RPM. Stock, mine shifted right at 6000 RPM also and kind of slid into each gear. The various times that I have had my chip removed over the last few years, I couldn't wait to put it back in.

I would buy it again.

Ok, I haven't checked the alternator yet, but I am going to tonight. Now the battery light flickers at like 2-3000 RPM and my Voltage guage drops pretty low. If I turn my heater off and at idle it charges back up. When I start driving it goes down. Now I did a search and others had the reverse happen to them, when driving theirs would charge back up. Still think it is my alternator or the battery???

Probably the voltage regulator in the alternator.

Well, wouldn't you know mine has started coming on under hard acceleration the last few days.... Gonna have to see if alternator is covered under my ESP. Only have 3500 miles left to get things fixed!

mines is doing the same thing

i am also having the same problem i had my alternator rebuilt and battery light still comes on also i went to auto zone and purchased another one and the battery light is still on i had the wires checked and they are fine but my battery light is still on what should i do i have only had my truck for 2 months it is a 1993 explorer
