Everywhere I look for the BBK Supercharger for a V-6 4.0 Explorer seems to no longer carry it. Was the Supercharger discontinued? Summitt Racing no longer shows it. Another website (I think it was Superchargers on line or something like that) did not show it anymore. I had the same thing happen to Borla headers when I was looking for them for my 95 X. Any ideas?

Yup, I heard they were discontinued a while ago, it's been probably almost a year.

Thanks for the info. It seems that the performance parts for a 4.0 do not stay around too long (unlike 5.0 parts).

BBK still has the information about the 4.0 supercharger on their website. You almost wonder why they develop an item(s) then discontinue it (also Borla- 4.0 Stainless Steel headers)while there are still tons of the vehicles on the road. Anyone from BBK or Borla have anything to say? I understand the economic issues of a business where inventory is counted against a company's profits but if there was not that great a desire for something in the first place why was it designed/developed,manufactured and marketed? The Supercharger was first shown by Summit Racing last year. If the item was going to be discontinued then why were none of the Superchargers offered for sale at a close out sale price? I know that it sounds like I'm whinning about this but a lot of people will make modifications to a vehicle when the warranty expires. About the time the warranty is up, the performance stuff for that vehicle (4.0 Explorers in this case) disappears. A High flow exhaust, chip and a K&N can only do so much for the underpowered 4.0.

The BBK kit came out at the end of 2000. I guess after 2 years they figured the market was saturated and their sales fell?

Yeah I had thought about that too. BBK's unit was designed to work on the 4.0 only, while you find the same Vortech head units in a lot of vehicle applications. We all know the market for performance 4.0 parts is pretty small....so I think their volume of sales probably wasn't high enough to offset their overhead costs.
