Hey all, its been a while since i have been here... glad to see there are more and more x lovers!!!

OK here are my problems.

1- 5 speed manual whines except when a press the clutch (fluid is up)

2- just jumpped in the x today and there is a major howling noise from the engine compartment. sounds like a mac truck. i think its in the front of the engine.

3- abs and brake light in dash are always on. fluid is up, never lost a drop... all brakes are bled, all shoes and pads are fine, e-brake works fine, wires to abs unit are ok...

any help to any of these would be GREATLY appreciated!

Does it happen only when you push the clutch in? If so it might be your throwout bearing. I had the same problem. It's a horrible sound when the clutch is pushed in and only then. If that's what it is then it cost about $200 or so for a new one and if you don't replace it yourself I got a quote of $545 to replace mine. So me and my brother did it over the course of a couple days. It was a PITA. If you're not sure if that's it take it to a tranny place and let them listen to it. Hope this helps.

Check the fuse on the ABS....... Hope that helps a bit

thank-you all for the replies!!!

I found out that the howling from the front of the engine is my fan clutch seized in engaged mode. Fan turns at the same rpm as the engine now!!! well overheating wouldn't be a concer now!!! lol.

the whining from the tranny only happens when the clutch is out. it goes away when i press it in.

Fuse for the ABS is ok. i guess i'll have to get a new unit (AHHH)

Just take the bulb out for the abs. In 91 they didn't have real abs, and it was only on the rear wheels. IMO it's not worth fixing.

ya but i have, as a mechanic called, a "hard error" which causes both my abs AND e-brake light to stay on

Well, when I had that symptom with my '92 Sport, it was the bearings on the transmission input shaft going bad (The input shaft was damaged too). Cost me $1700 to have the tranny rebuilt. Good luck!
