Well, I just got my X yesterday and I thought I heard a strange sound. I removed the belt and felt the compressor and it has small rocks or something caught in the pulley even when it is free wheeling it is binding some. Does have know the correct size belt to use to bypass the compressor?
Can this be done without the belt interfering with itself? Thanks.

At your local parts store tell them you have an Explorer without A/C. The belt will bypass the compressor without interferance. I did this the last time my Compressor failed.

Great. Thanks. I will do that. I am getting a new compressor in a few weeks but I want to drive the car. I am glad they have that.

It might just be the bearing in the pully going bad. If the compressor is original you'd be better off replacing the whole thing with a 134a compressor though.
