I got into a little race today at the stoplight with a Yukon. Had him by two car lengths by 70. Anyway, I noticed a belt squeal when I took off, probably around 5500+rpms. I just got an Xcal 3. Has anyone else experience this? My X only has 18K miles on it. Would a Goodyear Gatorback be better?

It could be several things:

idler pulley
tensioner pulley
the belt itself

Good luck resolving it.

The Gatorback is a great belt. Solved my squeal issues, BUT I had a lot more miles too.

The squeal could be caused by dirty or dry bearings on the idler or tensioner pully causing exra drag on the belt. If you take the belt off, spin the pulleys by hand, feel for smoothness when you spin them, there should be no noise or roughness, maybe just a little bit of drag. Rock the idler and tensioner pullys side to side, there should be no play.

I check all the pulleys and such, nothing I noticed at all. I remember reading back a few years ago, some people with Lightnings had the squeal as well. The Gatorback is next.

Let it squeal at 5500 as a scream of victory.

there is a factory tsb on it for all 4.6 motors the pulley wheels need to be changed
