I net my left side shaft on my truck....hitting a curb none the less at under 5mph. Anyway just wondering if I should take photos of the replacement to post online? Also is there anything someone opening up a 8.8 for the first time should know? Bought a axle from suprior Gear and Axle to replace the factory one. new wheel bearing and seal for the outside of the pumpkin.

this is actually pretty damn common with the 8.8

A pictorial how to is always welcome.
Are you planning to replace the bearings now as well?

being a 95 with disc brakes you will have to deal with the super fun drum style parking brake assembly., Dont be surprised to find yours is toasted :) You can get a hardware kit for them for about $80, it used to be a dealer item only = sucked, but they now have them at Napa and the like.

have fun! Make sure you got the 31 spline replacement axle shaft, not 28 (Ranger).

Why would you need to deal with the parking brake I did it the whole job per ford manual. It has you using a slide hammer and a bearing puller to take the bearing and the seal out as one unit. Oh yeah the axle has enough play to knock the c-clip off without dealing with the parking brake setup at all. It took a whole 1 hour to do the whole job. I spent more time cleaning up the diff. housing and bearing seat then I did anything else. My Camera person(wife) didn't get out of bed for the job. I thought it was going to be on the line of a Dana 60 or Dana 70 as these are the only kind of axles I have ever worked on in the truck/suv line of products. You got to love a simple axle setup like the 8.8. That thing is modern engineering at it's best.

I did knick the oil seal putting in the shaft so if it gives me problems I will have the wife on hand to photo the work to be done.
