What are the best bolt-on performance parts for a 1991 XLT 4.0 V6 4X4?

Ordered the exhaust (Flowmaster Super 44) and looking for a Cold Air Intake, can't find one. Any suggestions?

Probably will get a BBK 66mm throttle body as well

Throttle Body Mod, Underdrive Pulleys, Electric Fan

In that order.

Where can you find underdrive pullies? I've never seen them for a 1st gen 4.0 X.

KKM True-Rev Induction Kit / CAI

Magnecor or other high performance spark plug wires
2.25 cat-back exhaust

standard mod stuff, big gains on the 4.0L with these, assuming all other maintenance items have been taken care of first.

I'm not big on the throttle body spacer and underdrive pulley mods. The spacers seem like a waste of money, and the pulleys DO give gains, but at the expense of underdriving the accessories. OK for racing, not so much for a street driver.

I'd go for 3" exhaust from the muffler(s) back myself...... :) It's the 1st mod I'm gonna do 2 my '94 is dual Glasspacks with 3" exhaust pipes. :) love the sound of dual Cherry bombs......

Way too big for a OHV motor or even a SOHC.

The OHV and SOHC versions of the 4.0L from Ford all take the same crank pulley. And Underdog Performance makes an Underdrive Pulley for the SOHC and OHV motors...same part number.

I have 3" Cat-back exhaust on my wife's Green Explorer. It sounds awesome. I've been saying for a LONG time I am going to get a video/sound clip of the Exhaust System....maybe someday...LOL....

I don't think the 3" exhaust causes any loss in power...only adds a rumble....as you STILL have the somewhat restrictive dual cats, and y-pipe before them...lots of back pressure still to maintain the torque.

I run an underdrive crank pulley/damper as well as an underdrive water pump pulley in Florida and have never hasd a single problem.

I consider it one of the best mods I have ever done; highly recommended.

Installed the KKM intake, cleaned out the cat, ran 2 1/2" pipe to the super 44 and single 2 1/2" out just past the stock exhaust hanger with a 2 1/2" turn down before the rear axle. She's got a bit of a rumble now. Searching for a new fuel tank, I believe mines rusted pretty bad. Fuel filter was clogged enough to make it sputter and die, and think I'm gonna have to change the filter again soon. Probably will go ahead and throw a fuel pump in too, whenever I get around to changing tanks.
