I need some new 5x7's for my EX. I am on a rather tight budget (college) so ill take any suggestions. right now i have some pioneers that my dad is taking back for his car so i need some replacements. I have 2 JL audio W0's in a sealed box so i have some bass if that changes anyones recommendations. On a semi related subject, those W0's are very good subs. They're not the most powerful but they are nice if your going for more bass but dont need something excessive that will be heard 30 blocks away (then again that would also be sweet).

thanks

well people on here like the pionner 3 ways
im not sure if they make then in a 5X7 but u can make a 6X9 fit in the doors from what i have read

hopefully u are not without tunes for to long =)

Jensen 6x8s, they have them at Walmart.

Anyone have 6.5 in the doors and what did it take to get them there(any cutting or such)?

Walmart has also carried the Pioneer 6x8's as well. They were about 50-60$ for the pair.

Pioneer's and Jensen's will be fine....

Garth - If you search the audio section you can find LOTS of info on 6.5" conversion..... lots of the people posting to this forum have the 6.5" conversion... myself included....

I actually need to redo my door speaker install..... need to make MDF baffles and seal with sound deadener.... but that will happen eventually....

Inkwax - I have searched the audio section several times and I cant seem to hit the correct combination of words to get a proper return.
The ones that I have read dont tell me how or if it were difficult to get the 6.5" to fit.
So if you dont mind can you tell me how you got yours to fit?

I had the Pioneer 6x8s and they were not bad, not great though, they should work really well with your budget.

Well, there is no exact template to fabricate baffles for the speakers..... I was looking and this member used MDF.... he doesnt have plans but you can look at the pics part way down the page to see what he did....

Look at the door pics

Here is a start
You dont need to go 6.5. 5x7's sound just fine. I have a set of JL 5x7 comps and they are outstanding but they also cost me close to $300. You'll most likely find something in a range of $40-$60 that will work fine. I hear all the time how a round speaker sounds better then an oval speaker............ Throw a square rock into water and see if the waves are square..... There are more choices in a 6.5 but you will have to make them fit. A 5x7 should just drop in especially if its a pioneer or polk.

One more find and this time its much better....

Down the page there is a good write up by Mike 92 XLT

throw a square rock in the water and see if the waves are square?

thats not the issue with square speakers- the issue is that as the move through their excursion the parts where the radius is tighter are more restricted in their movement than the parts where the radius is more open. This leads to different parts of the cone moving farther than others. This leads to distortion.

wait- but i do recommend that for cheap speakers you get 5 by 7s.

i recommend that you buy lanzar though. I just installed lanzar components in my girls cavalier and no matter how unpopular they are with the crew here they are far better than the low low end offerings from sony, pioneer, jensen etc. for their price. They retail for around $50 as well.

Why 5x7's over 6x8's?

because not all manufacturers offer 6 by 8s

otherwise no reason

oh ok, thanks :)

Kicker solo barics dont have a problem being square. Now im not saying go look for square speakers to put in doors but I'm saying to me there is no difference in an oval 5x7 compared to a round 6.5. If blind folded it would be hard if not impossible to tell the differance.

^he just told u the scientific reasoning take it or leave it..but all finding are on max output at optimal settings and so properly powring both square and round and pushing both square and round to there limits thats what u get

right on the solox solo baric it says something about distortion and it doesnt matter becasuse they are slp subs its right on the website

solo barics do have a problem with being sqaure... they have very weak sq which of course they aren't built for anyways
