I know there is another thread related to this one but I wasnt sure as to whether or not it epertained to the 2002s. I was looking into getting the PIAA Xtreme Whites, but one of my friends heard they melt the headlight casing? Im not so sure if hes right. Anyone hear this or experience it before? Also, are the Xtreme whites legal? I was thinkin bout getting the Silverstars everyone seems to speak of also. Which would you guys suggest? And how hard is it to replace the bulbs in the 2002s? Id love to get a light thats kinda like a xenon color but im not so sure those would be best for brightness and they could just look like cheap imitations. Thanks for any help!

well i can attest to this fact, my bros expedition and my friends expedition have had this prob before. The wattage on some of these bulbs are not correct even though they are 9007 bulbs so they melt the fuse that connects to the light resulting in a very deep orangeish tint on the headlight, pretty freakin ugly. On my friends expo the headlight housing around the bulb did melt so you just have to be carefull, however i use hiper industry hiper white bulbs and i havn't had ne problems.

Thanks for the info dude...I definitely dont want my lights melting my casing. I m ost probably am gonna get the silverstars if I can find them. I think theyd look good with my piaa 1400x's and the 520s when I actualy have em on. All those bright white lights will blind people!

kyle

do you have a regular 2002 explorer?

the reason i ask, is '02 reg x takes a 9006 bulb for low beams and a 9005 for high beams.

yes the bulbs are very easy to change.
pop your hood, just behind the headlight assemblies are two metal pieces , pull up on these, your headlight assembly is released.change bulbs. put the metal "screw type" things back in the holes they came out of and snap the metal pieces back. make sure they go down all the way.

i have silverstars 9006 low beams only [so far-wife declares no more headlight bulbs]. soon i'll get the high beams changed.

the silverstars are 60/70 watt as opposed to standard 55/60 watt bulbs. you will have NO problem with these melting anything!
the price of admission for silverstars is around 25.00 per bulb. they aren't cheap, they are VERY nice.

[imo] piaa bulbs are very expensive and seem to last around 1 year. I AM NOT BASHING PIAA!
save yourself some money and try the silverstars if you want or try some "standard wattage" piaa bulbs.

do what works best for you.

if you stick with the standard watt range you won't melt anything.

let us know what you do

Best part about the Silverstars is that I was able to go down to my local AutoZone and pick them up, no mailing away or shipping to pay. I love my SilverStars so much I was thinking about getting the 9005s as well, not that they would really help anything. But man, when I put on my highbeams it sure would be bright

since i last posted on this thread, i've put the silverstars not only in my high beams but also put some 9005's in for fog lights.

wow!!! what a kick

go for it.

anyone have pics of silverstars next to stock ??

Just buck up for two sets of HID's Get 4800K's for the driving beam and 10,000K's for the bright! That would be king. I wish I had that option. I would drop the money in a heartbeat. HID's are the only way to go! I love my set. I have had them since the HID's cost arround $1,000-$800. Let me know if you need any help.
