best mpg i've seen out of my explorers

Took the family to the keys this week. Drove about 900 miles al together. I am very happy to report that with the windows up, a/c on, and doing about 80 most of the way, we averaged a whopping 22mpg!

Bone stock 93. 5 speed with 265k on the ticker.

EPA sticker was 17 city/21 highway so 22 is in the ballpark.

Slow down to 60-65 and you can get ~25+ MPG.

EPA estimates don't count when the motor has 250 thousand miles or more. Lol.
Yes, it is a 4x4.
If I would have done 60-65, I would have been run over on the turnpike. Lol.

wow the best I've ever seen is 20mpg, but I have the A4LD. what kind of fluids do you use? in your X?
edit: oh and that was only around 65-70mph..

Just regular el-cheapo fluids. The stars must have all been in alignmentthar day, because I just got 16.7 out of the tank I used to go to work this week.

Lately that's what I've been seeing too, I would drive a 60-70% on freeway and the rest in town and saw 17.5ish.. and I was happy with that.
A lot better than my 12mpg I was getting for a while.

if all i got was 12, i'd drive it off a cliff and buy a super duty. lol.

i average about 14mpg that's with city and highway doing 65-70 the best i ever got was about 21mpg road trippin doing between 65 and 70.My 2.9 2wd ranger gets 25+ but not its not as fun to drive as my x.

my other truck gets about 28mpg, but it's just a two seater.... and it's a LOT more fun to drive than the sploder. lol.

I get about 19+ on the hwy and 15-16 around town IF I don't drive it hard.....like I drive it. So about 17mpg.My Cummins dually gets that.

I can get about 17-18 in town taking it easy and about 23-25 highway at about 65. rather get that mpg with a explorer then 35-40 with a small car hate small cars except for the mustang I want one of those new shelby gt500's I would not care about the mpg with that lol
