I was wondering what the best "Over the Counter" window tint was? Meaning, tint that you can buy at a autopart store or over the internet, not 3m or Johnson. I am a experienced window tinter, but the shop that use to sell me 3M tint under the table closed down. Now I am stuck using the commerical brands and was wondering what is the best brand? Does the top of the line Gila actually resist fading, etc? Thanks in advance.

I bought the ones sold at Wal-Mart. It matches almost perfectly. BTW, my tints are the privacy tint, not the black tint. Do a search, there're lots of threads about tints.

Here's one:

There's a pic of my truck with the front windows tinted.

EDIT: Woa!! I didn't notice where you're from. Where in Raleigh do you live? I go to NC State.

Tinting is much much much more difficult than what the instruction say that comes with the tint film.

Spend a little more and give that project to a professional tint guy. You'll thank yourself later.

Off-topic but what does "BTW" mean?

You're right. It's harder than it seems. But instead of spending $75 on a tint job, you spend about $25 max. I did that and it's quite rewarding. I've had my tints for a year and I've yet to see any scratches, fading, or bubbling so I'm pretty happy.

BTW means "By The Way".

Thank you very much.

I am not a beginner. I have tinted 11 automobiles, so I am actually quite good at it. I agree it is not easy or something that I would learn to do again, I actually hate doing it but I can save a little cash doing it myself. I am just use to using 3M tint not "OTC". I have actually used Wal-Mart Gila bronze on my mothers 93 Eddie Bauer and it matched perfectly but faded horribily over the years. I just want a good tint that will not fade.
BTW '96explorereddiebauer, I live across from RGA golf course in the Links. I graduated from State in 2001.
