Hey guys, Im new to the board and was just wondering if you guys had any suggestions for my car...I was looking to maybe get a double din face or a single din with an equalizer...I was also interested in getting some subs, maybe two 8"s? I dont want a huge system, just enough bass to make my car rock a little. The factoiry system just doesnt do it for me. Also, are there any custom subs I could fit into the cargo space on the drivers side in the trunk? Ive seen those custom ones made for the 2001 but not yet for the 2002. If anyone has any suggestions, Id love to hear them! Thanks.

MTX thunderform 10" sub fits in that cargo area, and it already has an amp in it. As for HU I'd go with a pioneer or sony mp3 capable sytem, that way you can burn 2 or 3 CDs and never have to buy another one. Install it yourself to save some cash too. Just to let you know, once you start buying car audio stuff, its hard to stop.

other suggestions

Sweet man, thanks...any other suggestions?

I definately second the MP3 HU idea as well as the powered Thunderform if you want a sub.

2002 system upgrades

If you need any help in removing interior panels, etc., let me know. So far I have changed/installed aftermarket component speakers and HU in my 2002 XLS.

Hey Rscotts1,

I'm about to order a new HU, more specifically a Pioneer in dash DVD player (avh-p7480) :D, for my '02 XLS and would really appreciate any tips you have on removing the stock HU. There doesn't seem to be the usual holes for the removal tool that has been there in the past years Explorers. Does the trim piece around the radio/ac/etc just pop out or what?!?

TIA,

Scott....

trim

Hey man,

Yes, the trim piece pops out. Its alot harder to get off than my 96' though. If you start at the top with a small flathead, then pry it out enough to get your fingers in the top. THen just start going around and popping all of the connectors off. Some of the are pretty hard to get off so, you might feel like your going to break it but, you shouldnt. Then there are two bolts holding the factory radio in place.
Thats about it,
Kendal

Have to go with the indash DVD!

Dash removal

Sramblin is right on the dash face removal. Just be careful though, you don't want to break anything.

Thanks guys!

Matt, nice setup you have there! What's the make and model of the indash DVD you have there?

Scott....

If you're going to do a double-din... the Eclipse double din is so cool... You might want to look into it.

I love Eclipse stuff.

Double-din eclipse

Mainframe do you have a direct link to the double-din face? I couldnt find it anywhere on that site...were you refering to the in-dash dvd players?

The thunderform won't fit in the compartment. First of all its on the wrong side and itz way smaller than before. Unless they made another one?

Yes

I know that dude...the havent come out wth the 2002 yet. I wrote to MTX and asked them when it will be out or if they were making a new one. They saidthey were working on it as we speak, so I gues we should expect te 2002 thunderform in the fall? Hope so
