I would like to replace the power steering and brake fluids in my 94 explorer. Any tips? I can not seem to figure out the best way to do so. Is there a synthetic option?

to drain the break fluid you could undo the the bleeder valves on all 4 wheels and keep pushing the pedal till you get all the fluid pumped out then fill it up again and do it over and over again that way you'll flush it all out till it's clear.may want to buy a couple of the large style break fluid bottles to do this seeing that you may have use a lot of fluid to do a flush.

the power steering pump you could use what i used to get transmission fluid out with ...a 2 oz syringe (large type of one) just keep drawing it out and putting new back in there till all thats left is clean fluid .i never had to change fluid in a power s pump but this may work .

hope this helps

edit...looks like al beat me to it ( doh ! lol )

Thanks yall

:nono: You never want to drain the braking system as it will introduce air into the master cylinder and ABS hydraulic control unit. Once air is in the system it will be a huge pita to get out. As mentioned in the various brake bleeding threads you just want to bleed each wheel cylinder until the fluid runs clear.

specking of fluid changes

I remember summit racing sells these check valves you screw in place of the bleeder valves. Looked cool never used them, I always just gravity bleed.
In regards to fluid change, I just put a new clutch into my explorer and I decieded to go with standard dot 3 value craft brake fluid. Seeing that the slave cylinder is on the inside of the transmission i thought, what if this synthetic brake fliuld is harder on the seals of the slave. Anyone have any problems with synthetic? I have been using the cheap stuff for thirty years, and other than getting it in my eyes and mouth, I never had a problem
