Best year Explorer for towing or should I just get an Expedition?

While I tow occassionally 8000 pounds with my Explorer adn my previous 98 XLT 5.0 AWD if there is a choice between the Expedition and the Explorer I would recommend the larger Expedition. THe one bonus of the later Explorers with the mod engines and 6 speed trans (06 and up) is they get excellent fuel economy on the highway. I can get from 24-26 with the cruise set in the low sixtie to 65 mph on level roads. It equals my minivan with the 3.8 V-6 and approaches the economy of my wife's Lexus 300 (Toyota Camry with Lexus badging) and it has 3 row of seats and many creature comforts.
