Hello all. I have the 30x9.50-15 BFG Longtrails and have noticed something interesting. They are very quiet and run smooth, BUT, and I'll speculate here, they pick up rocks real easy because the tread is basically staggered channels. That is, there is no interlocking tread but rather continuous grooves, 1/4" to 1/2" wide staggered allowing rocks to be pinched and then thrown with centrifugal force at speed.

Anyone else with comments? Overall I like the tires, but havent been in mud or deep sand yet. Any experiences?
thanks.

i have the BFG Long trails also. I also noticed the rocks, but i thought all tires did that?? Also My boss has the same tires and said they do real well in sand, but he said they arn't as good in deep sticky mud.

I have a friend with a Jeep Wrangler and 30 x 10.50 BFG Trail T/A's, and he is getting rid of them because they throw too many rocks. There are even a few spots in his fender wells that are now DENTED because they have been hit hard by bits of rock thrown from the tire.

Goodyear Wranglers don't throw so many rocks.
BFG's are great tires but they are known to throw rocks.

I like 'em

I also have the BFG Long Trails, and I have noticed that my mud traction is almost non-existant (This may be due to the fact that I did not air down that day). Overall, I like them very much, I try to avoid mud anyways. I reccommend them to anyone who is looking for a tire that is quiet on the road, but performs well enough for who it's for off the road.

My dad has an '89 F150 with 31 inch BFG Longtrails and I havent noticed rocks being thrown, but they are a quiet and smooth ride, and they do ok in sticky mud, you have to have the 4 wheel drive engaged and take a short run, but you can through some tough stuff, but you slip and slide, but that makes it fun though :)Butin the deep clay-like mud we go through, it gets through it with alot of spin, and alot of clay and mud gets stuck in the treads, but I like those tires alot.

heck, i have regular street tires and a gravel driveway...when i hit the pavement and i have the windows down i can hear the clicking from the rocks hitting the pavement...all tires pick up rocks...that is, if they have tread ;)

KTM, All kidding aside, all tires with tread will pick up gravel/rocks and throw them. I have been driving quite a while and have owned numerous brands/types of tire. Street tire will pick up smaller pieces and off-road tires will pick up larger ones. From my military days diving a 2 1/2 ton truck. It had duelie tires on the back and 'rocks' would get wedged in-between the tires. You should hear the noise those things make driving 55 and hitting a steel bed! Almost makes you lose your supper. Anyways, the BFG's aren't that bad for throwing stones, just a part of driving. Good luck.
