Tire replacements. Bridgestone Revo or BFG LongTrail

I have BFG Long Trails on my 98 Ex XLT. We got a dump of snow yesterday and I have had no problems cutting through anything. Then tonight on the drive home 3 bucks ran out in front of me. I nailed the brakes on snow and ice, the ABS kicked in and the truck stopped on a dime with about 5 feet to go...one of the bucks ran back the way he came and the other two continued across the meridian. The Toyota comming the other way wasn't so lucky...either was one of the bucks.

I now believe in these tires for road and highway use and would recommend them.

I just put 4 Michelin AT 2 on my 05 Ex -245/65/17 a few days ago They are considered an off road tire but they are great on road Quiet and smooth ride
They are aggressive looking but they don't look like they belong on Bigfoot
Check them out on Michelin's website

May i ask how much you paid and were?
Thanks! i maybe looking for a set of those, LTX / AT ii correct?

Ltx at2

Mine are the245?65/17 I bought them at Sam's Club for $188 per tire Also Michelin has an instant rebate of $80 when you buy 4 that expires on Dec 24
They are pricey but I've read that owners of the original AT got 100,000 miles out of them

yea, i can confirm - i got close to 70-80k miles on a set of 235/75-15 for a jeep. I put them on about 8 years ago had still some tread left but two had slow leaks and one was bad due to worn ball joints . . .great tire for sure.

What is the difference between a "long trail" and a "rugged trail"? I assume the rugged trail is a more aggressive tread pattern. I am happy with my set of rugged trails so far.

Bridgestone Revo's don't mix well with snow.

After one winter with revo's I switched to BFG T/A's. When I got the tires switched the mechanic was suprised I told him to keep the revo's with so much tread left. Told him I don't care, I never want to see them again. He chucked them.

With my BFG's, I estimate I can get myself into and out of 4x the stuff my revo's would not even have a chance at.

i have never had T/A's but my revo's are the best all terrains i have had no problems in the snow at all and in the rain its like the ground is dry

I've ran a lot of different tires and I've yet to find anything as good as a Kumho KL78 for the money. If money is no option, my first pick would be Bridgestone with BFG at a close second. I almost bought Goodyear Silent Armors when I bought my last set of Kumhos. They've received fantastic reviews, but I wouldn't waste my money on anything else made by Goodyear. The same goes for Michelin. The ones I've had have lasted a long time, but the performance was horrible in rain and snow. The only way I'll ever own another Michelin is if it's on the vehicle when I buy it.

for what its worth, I put Dueler REVOS on my ex about two years ago and I already have to replace them with about 25k miles. They were the best tires I have ever had but they did not have the tread life I was expecting at all, and I took care of them by rotating and balancing. maybe just me, but I was the biggest advocate of them for the first two years and it seemed like the last 3 months they just wore out. They were great snow tires up here in Cleveland with the lake effect snow I was able to drive through conditions in which they told everyone to stay home, I made my own parking spaces in the snow piles the plows made and was able to pull two cars out of ditches. Again, they were awesome tires, just didnt last as long as I hoped for the money. I may get some general grabbers, not the greatest but they have nice tread and a 60k mile warranty

Wow...we got almost 70k out of a set of 31 x 10.5 REVO's. The started out on my Explorer for about 30k. When I sold it, we put 'em on my buddy's F-150. He ran them on that truck for another 20k, then put them on his Explorer for about another 20k before he wore them out.....

I'm surprised to hear that Danny's REVOs wore so quickly as well. I've never owned the REVOs and I know that comparing two different models within a manufacturer isn't the best way to evaluate either one, but I had 2 Bridgestone Insignias on a car once and 2 off-brand tires. When I bought the car, the Bridgestones were about 1/2 worn and the others needed to be replaced. I replaced the off-brand tires with 2 Kelly Springfield something or others and they wore completely out before the Bridgestones showed any additional visible wear.

Did you order a set yet?
I am replacing my rims/tires on my 02 Ex with some 20's. I just ordered the Yokohama Parada Spec-x tires for mine. They got awesome reviews so we will see how it goes.

ordered my tires

thanks to all for the great posts. Taking stock of my current driving style and location, I went with the BFG Long Trail T/A touring. Got a good price also. Things that I considered were the fact that I no longer have to drive in snow, I drive mostly highway with only ocassional dirt/gravel terrain. I do plan to make a few drives to Sequioa nat'l park and Yosemite, but that will likely be 1-2 times a year, and only once during the winter for snow boarding. I have driven the LongTrails before, but that was before the most recent tread changes. I can testify that they last forever and handling was great. The Revo's were awesome. Can't complain. I mean I put 60K miles on them, drove them pretty hard in Chicago for three years given my truck is 2WD. They still have life in them, but due to bad suspension (damn potholes in Chicago), they are cupped pretty badly from the inside. the rear tires don't feel good and I don't think is worth driving them down to the wires under these conditions. I want to enjoy the ride again. Suspension has already been fixed with new shocks. I have placed an order for the BFG LongTrail T/A touring so we'll see how they feel. They have big shoes to fill, no pun intended, but will make sure that I compare them to the way the Revos drove when they were new. Right now they are shot it wouldn't be a good comparison, anything would feel better.

got em'

BFG Longtrails are softer and smoother than the REVO's and slightly less noisy on my truck. Feel good. makes the truck feel more like a car whereas the REVOS allowed me to feel like a truck. Different strokes for different folks. We'll see how they wear.

by the way, the cupping on my REVO's were not the cause of my vibration when turning...it was the rear differential that the dealer fixed by adding a second bottle of friction modifier. I spent the money on my new kicks even though the REVO's still had about 10-15K miles in them. Felt stiff and hard though. Rubber was weathered already, so for California driving it's probably a good thing that I have new rubbers...know what i mean
