which is better-
BFG Muds or Dunlop Mud Rovers?
I do alot of driving on the street but also venture off-road.. I really want something more aggresive looking then all-terrains...

The Dunlops are a good bit cheaper, but if riffman replies to this, he can tell you about them. The BFG muds are more expensive. I heard they suck in snow because they dont have any siping or something. Look into BFG AT KO's, they have very agressive looks, and they do great on and off road.

The BFG MT's are excellent in the snow....eh...if you only go straight.

THey are great off road and in the mud, but are a bit slippery. If you do mostly road driving then i would saty away from the MT's.

The BF Goodrich Mud Terrains are my every day tires and I'm very satisfied with'em. I got in some snow in Buffalo this year, and they did well; what they don't like too much is packed snow and ice, but which non-studded tire does? Also, the wider you go the more problems on snow you are gonna have. The only real draw-back of the MTs is that they are humming on pavement, specially on slow speeds. You just will have to crank the radio up a notch ...

BTW, I normally make over 35 kmls a year, which means a lot of interstate.

PUR PONY -

Are you really sure you want a mud tire on your rig? Yours looks great, but it looks like a street rig to me, especially since you lowered it. With your blower setup, I would assume that you like to drive fast. I'd stick with a street tire if I were you, maybe an all season. A mud tire will be louder and not have as much traction on the street, and will not hug the corners like a street tire.

On the other hand, if you're dead set on a mud tire, there are many more good choices other than BFG or Dunlop (I'd go with BFG's over Dunlop).

Pro Comp, Mickey Thompson Baja Belted HP (Ask Matt Adams about these), Goodyear MT-R, Parnelli Jones Dirt Grip (Brand New), & Bridgestone Duelers are other possibilities.

Have you ever dynoed your current combo? Numbers?

as of now my truck is 3" over the lowered state it was in in the photos- I may be nuts but I have always wanted something lifted. The lowered look was just something to do in the meantime. Who knows- once I lift it and get it all done I may lower it again- I dont know... I just like to change things all the time- I love to play in my garage- lol

about the dyno and numbers- ill let ya know- going in next tuesday for a dyno run and custom burned chip-

From the pics it looks like you have a 2WD. I'm with DOGMAN; looks like you've got quite a nice street truck build-up there. Are you sure you want muds?

Personally, I like the tires you have in the pics...

Go w/ the bfgs they will hold up off-road and they last a long time on road. In real SNOW they are great. As far as the traction on ice goes, just take it to your tire store and have them siped. Costs 5 bucks a tire. Also I noticed that because of the three ply sidewall they don't roll as much on high speed corners.

3" of lift - now you're talkin'!!! Is that a body or suspension lift?

The Pro Comp muds have siping on them, and they are rather inexpensive. I've run the Bridgestone Dueler M/T's, great tire. Great all around, aggressive looking tire is the M/T Baja HP - more expensive but does very well on the trail, smooth on the street, and bad ass looking period; talk to Matt.

Don't know much about the new Parnelli Jones Dirt Grip - they sure look cool though.

Personally, I like to use something a little different, not something that EVERYBODY is using. Like I said, there are many good choices out there. Good luck.

To add: Currently, 4 Wheel Parts has a Buy 3 get 1 FREE sale on Pro Comp and BFG, Mud or All Terrain. It doesn't say this in their current magazine ads, but it does in their current (Dec 2000/Jan 2001) 4 Wheel Parts Off-Adventures magazine, which you get if you've ever bought anything from them. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Well the 3" is including the inches gained from removing the lowering kit. Right now I have the Torsion Twist with pro-comp add-a-leaf and warrior shackles. I am currently using 30" tires off my dads ranger- he does know- he's in florida-ssshhhhh
but when I get around to it I have a 3" body lift sitting under my pool table. This should give me about 5"+ of lift over stock... and I want to get 32"x11.5 with american racing baja's (15x8) If I REALLY like it lifted I am probably going to get a newer explorer lift sometime and modify it-
My truck is not 2wd- its AWD. I know that for playing in the mud 4x4 is much better but oh well- I dont do alot of mudding- just trails and off-roading here and there- nothing to bad to get my self stuck alot....If I ever get the time.. I would love to swap out to a straight front axle and 4x4 with rear spring over conversion and fit some 35's- that would be fun- someday
