I recently put 34s on a 2000 4.0L SOHC with something like a 3.56 gear ratio in both pumpkins and it seems to be slow. I haven't really guned it because I haven't serviced my transmission latey, but today I did a trans flush at work. Before I flushed it I put in some BG transmission cleaner and after I put new fluid in I put the BG Conditioner. My question is, how many people have expierenced a transmission problem(s) with bigger tires. I just don't want to kill my transmission (I do not have a lot of money, nor the time to put a new transmission in). Thanks

-Drew

also, is it just my gears that are making me slow?

34s on 3.55 gears is defiantely not recommended.. Its gonna be sluggish cause your trying to push a 34" tire around compared to a 28" tire. Change out the gears to atleast 4.10 and you'll notice an improvement.

Yeah, I'm thinking about 4.56 as a gift soon. I heard they are hard to install. Shims and all that. But new gears will relieve stress off the transmission won't it?

Get the gears professionally installed, you don't want to try it yourself unless you've done it before. As for the tranny, you'll be fine, just becareful of it overheating especially when your in a lower gear on the trails. Call me an idiot but I like to do a tranny pan & filter change atleast once a year to be safe.

One of the guys at work is a gear head. I'm sure he'd get a kick out of it. And for me, I'm facinated by differentials, just haven't learned a whole lot about them. Maybe a good learning expierence. I am planning on putting a new trans cooler in it and a temp gauge. But yeah, I will defilently service my transmission often, considering how many I see in the shop with Transmission failures. We just replaced a 97 X. But, I've seen more engines go out before transmissions. Thanks for your help.
