TIRES

You could go as big as 44"s tires if you want, but you would need some help from TDavis and his sawzaw!!!
My own opinion is 33" is big enough if you plan on four wheeling it. When you get bigger then that, then you will have to change gears, and it is getting more stress on your axle. I may change my mind later, but for now I am happy with the 33's.
Gofast just put on 35's, so maybe he can tell you after he goes wheeling this weekend.

Will 33's fit with only a 4" lift?

Hello Perry,
Any idea if 33x9.5x15 BFG AT's will fit with just the 4" Skyjacker class II I've ordered for my 93 XLT? The 4x4 shop
in Great Bridge is suggesting they install a body lift also or else change the suspension lift to a 5.5".
They also suggest changing the gears to 4.11's in order to use any tires larger than 31's with the V-6.
Thanks, Bob

I am not sure. I know mine rub a little in sharp corners, but I think that is because of the offset on my 10" wide rims. Since you want to go with a narrower tire, then maybe you will be O.K. Maybe someone else can help you with this question.
As for the gears I have talked to a few people and maybe some of the other guys such as "Rick" could help you more, but I think with 4.56 gears you get close to the stock setup. The 4.10 gears are more for the 35" tires.

Like I said maybe e-mail Rick, Go-fast, or one of the guys that have been doing this longer then I have. I know what works for one Explorer maybe won't work for the next one.

When we did ours, I had the lift on, then went and got the tires. After they put them on and put it back on the ground, I tried turning and it was hitting, so I had to take the front tupperware piece off in order to get home. Then my dad and I cut the fenders since the next day we were going on a trip with it.
Hope this helps.

Bob- If ya add a body lift to that, you should have no problem fitting whar you want. You should be able to go as far as 33x12.5x15's on your truck.

was: 33x9.5x15's w/4" lift

Thanks Guys,
I hadn't considered lifting the body too. My understanding was that it would cause more problems than
it was worth. Of course this is coming from people who believe an Explorer shouldn't be lifted.
Perhaps the 4" Skyjacker class II plus a 1" or 2" body
lift should do the trick? For wet weather driving I feel the 33x9.5 size will be fine. Also the narrower tire should negate adding lips to the fenderwells.
Thanks again, Bob

when i first put on my 4inch trailmaster i was told that i would not be able to fit any bigger than 32's but i asked them to try 33x10.50's and they fit fine, they only rubbed once and that was when i had my truck articulated to the max.
