Billet grill insert

Bought a billet grill insert off eBay. (Link
Went to bolt it on, and it doesnt seem to fit anywhere. the original grill sticks out too far to fit this in there. The eBay SAYS it fits 95-01, but the image itself says 95-00.

Basically what I'm trying to figure out is if they changed the grills on the 01 X's and made it so they jut out farther, or if im just not doing something right.

Any ideas?

EDIT: I was mistaken, I thought it would fit over my original grill. T'is not the case. Sorry for the waste of thread.

some fit over the stock grill and some need the stock grille to be cut out a little bit less than the whole center section

95-01 use the same grill

Next time I'll read the auction's info more carefully.
Got it in fine though.

not bad, i would cut the crossbars of the oe out a little bit mroe though, and paint the inside black....

Yeah, I will eventually, I gotta head back up to school soon and I dont feel like driving my beater so I just popped it back in.

That is nice. I'll have to look into finding a 1st gen grill like that.

Not a waste, i got the same exact one and i put it over my orginal, i didnt want to cut the original

What i did is put double sided tape on the 4 mounting tabs then squeezed it in their and then zip tied it to the orginal grill.
you cant see the zip ties or tape, the orginal grill is visible though up close and at the right angle

EDIT: didnt see that you already cut it!! it looks better cut, then mine not cut
