I've got a dark blue explorer that is well tinted, and im curious about putting some dark wheels on it. Does anyone have any pics of anything like that. I dont know for sure but it seems like some cop cars have black wheels that are kinda rugged looking. Let me know if anyone knows what im talking about.

This is personal opinion but I don't like black rims unless it has a chrome spinner/floater on it. That looks the best.

I LOVE black rims...I have them on my truck and I have a dark green. Check out the pics in my siq to see

I have the same as Chew_12, black rims on a dark green truck. I also have the chrome center caps and valve stem covers. I personally think they look great, and so do many other people I've talked to. Check my sig for pics.

I like GJarrets rig - depends on how close to stock your look is, but his dark blue with chrome rims looks great.

Mine X's the gold color, so black will go a little better, but maybe I'm biased 'cause I think I'm staying with chrome too....

i have a 91 dark blue explorer with some black wheels ,check out my link

Black rims rock. They look great and don't require near as much maintenance as a chrome or polished would. They don't show brake dust since they're black, and they're much tougher, being made out of steel (at least the rock crawler's are).

Black rims...sweet!

For those of us who are using these things for dual purpose, I thought steel wheels were much heavier, and when added to the rolling weight of a 35" tire or even a 33x12.5x15 tire, the weak stock brakes on an X would be a little overtaxed to say the least.

Aren't aluminum rims a lot lighter?

The aluminum rims are much lighter and easier on stock brakes, but the steel rims hold up better to abuse, they'll bend whereas the aluminum will just crack. At least that's the way I see it.

Damn I take my opinion back, that looks nice. I'll restate it by I don't like black rims on show cars, but for offroad that's pretty tight

Pretty much the only black rims you see on this board are on offroad rigs.

Wow thanks for all the feedback, what im going for is not really a show car. Im not looking to lift my X either, so im not going for the offroad look either. I think i just want it to look mean! LOL. So what i got is the 93-97 lower valance with fog light holes to add, Im going to do dark tint on all the windows, and (another controversial item) lund hood scoops, this added to the Dark blue X with running boards. So without pics im wondering if you guys think some black rims would compliment. Thanks in advance.

Everybody and thier sister has chrome or brushed aluminum rims, I think black rims look nicer and nowadays are different.

go black I love black rims on dark cars/trucks

89 lx 5.0 in my sig :D

Cool I thank you all much now, any suggestions on what to buy?
