I removed the fallen recirc door in my 04 XLT and since then, I have been finding small pieces of black sticky foam all over the place inside the car, like it's in the vents somewhere and is disintegrating.

Anyone have any idea what this stuff is or where it may be coming from?

The black colored foam could be from the foam insulation that was around the air recirc door panel you removed or some other insulation that was inside the recirc box. Do the foam pieces just have glue on one side of them?

Yes. It falls apart when touched as well. I figured it was some kind of insulation, and so long as it isn't important, it will stop eventually.

This stuff is found around most ventilation system flaps and joints between the various tubes and chambers that make up the air flow path. On old vehicles it may come out in little bits for years. Hate when a little piece gets in my eye.
