black tranny oil , almost always ....

hii ,
i have done nothing till now except changing the filter and fluid ,, and the spped stall test was 1600 rpm ,, what that supose to mean ? the speed stall test value 1600 ??
is it normal , within specef. or not

OK , today i took it to tranny shop , he said complete rebuild is needed ,, what you think ? the oil today is clean red , and no slippage and the car shudders strongly (some time i feel my brain is shaking inside my skull !! :) )when accelerating and grinding noise from floor when accelerating first gear , when second gear is engaged the noise is gone ,,,, also to mention that when the car is cold first gear is very long and the second will engage at high rpm 4000-4500 rpm, when hot this prob. is disappeared and the grinding noise persists,,,,,


2 points I'm a dentist actually and not a mechanic , i have some interest in repairing my car till the limits i can reach ,, so valve body rebuilding needs a professional trany mech. am i right ?

Shops always try to push for an entire rebuild. Follow the procedure in Glacier991's sticky thread on the A4LD. It's something that you could do yourself. You could buy a rebuilt valve body if you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself for the first time.
 






brooklybay , hi , well , now i left my car in tranny repair shop and now it is three weeks since i drop my car , the car is not ready yet , the shop is saying first after the tranny was rebuilt , there was a leak , then now they are saying that everything is fine for the four front gears , but no reverse or (reverse is weak ) !! ,,,so it may take another week or so to get the car out of there ,, what do you think is happening? is this problem raised because it is an old model car , and rebuilding the tranny is complicated ?
something to mention , that before i drop the car there , i had a lot of slippage and grinding noise from under the car in addition to delay in first and reverse engagement along with engine overheating ,,,
so i need advice , and i need to understand what happened ,, thanks for your assistance ,,

( broken one way sprag ) , where this sprag is located ? is it in the valve body ? how it looks like ? and why it could break ? where i can get picture of that ? do you think this is the only expected cause for this problem ?

Just checking if you replaced the Tranny fluid with Mercon-V fluid? What brand did you use? If you end up dropping the pan check to see if there are O rings on the filter pickup.. I had O rings go bad on a few tranny filter pickups.. Just a thought!! George
 






well guys , wish you all a happy new year and a merry christmas :)

now it is around one year over after rebuilding my transmission at DEXOL , well , now again i am facing problems of overheating and loss of power and burned black oil within one day after change of new oil and filter ,, these people at dexol claims that the torque converter is bad now and to be replaced and some other parts too leading to anew charge of around 500$ ,,,, mmm what do you think guys?

now it is about 2 years since my tranny was rebuilt , and about 1 year since the major repair of the tranny done including front oil seal and t.c change,,,

yesterday i replaced the filter and oil bcause i was getting some probs. for the last 2 months ,,

- the tranny gets great increase of heat within short time of driving (may be 10-15mints)
-the oil and d.stick are impossible to touch after just 10 mints. of drive
-the oil gets darker every day
-when it gets hot , the ca stars shredding , specially while accelerating from first gear


what makes the tranny gets such very hot and the oil boiling like ?

hi b.b ,, thanx for the fast reply ,,

the engine temp. is normal , no leak , coolant level is ok ,,

but to add :
- the vaccum mod. was leaking and replaced
-the wire bundle and connectors to tranny was replaced
-the pan i found is not he original i know with a deep centre, but dexol people installed the other shallow type pan , so i had to cut the new filter neck to install the pan.
-some times the rear antilock light comes on and disappers , and last time i changed the back break shoes i noticed hat the wire ( metal robe like wire ) is cut off , so i just removed the remnants of it.
-the differential oil was checked long time back , could it makes this prob. to tranny?
-there is loud scratch noise when tranny gets overheated , may be within just 15-20 mints. of drive ?even on ver low speeds .

-speedo meter is not stable , goes fluctuating ,,,,

yes brooklybay , but the original pan you think will solve the problem ?

the car was running with no prob. before and even with this pan and even with a smaller filter ,, and since about 2 years since the last rebuild , there was no such symptoms , further more ,even before the rebuild , ihad no such symptoms....

so i think the current pob. is not related to the pan ,,,

during next week end i will try checking the cooler , and its lines ,,also maybe can check the rear differential and rear breaks ,,

what else to check ?
 






well friends , i checked the cooler lines and the cooler itself and the radiator part for cooling gb oil ,, all ok , no blockage ,,, i blown some air into the cooler and radiator too with no sign of blockage ,,,

but i noticed few things :
when the car was cold and before starting it in the morning , i checked the oil level of tranny , it shows very high on dip stick ,, say about 2 cm higher cross lines. but when i just start the car , and check the oil level on stick , it shows very very little or no oil on stick!!!
where the oil is gone ???
again when it gets hot , on parking , little oil on tip of stick !
the other thing is when i opened the cooler line which connects to the radiator (upper one ) just to see the flow of the oil throgh the line it was very little oil coming from it , not that quantity i know when i did my last time tranny flush through cooler lines ,

so i think this could be to low oil pump output ???
low oil in torque convertor ???
oil leaking inside , my be towards the back of tranny (can see some oil leakage near the 4x4 part and the back exten. part of tranny )

or may be my friends brooklyn bay or glacier can give me explanations :) or ideas of what else to check or replace .

i added some oil to tranny say about a quart , and i checked the level as BB directed me , the level is ok when the car hot and in park.

today i went under the car to see if there is any bent oil line , i noticed that the cat.con. has no heat shields and the heat coming of it is great that when you just stand beside th car after ashort trip , you will feel the heat comes from under the car , (may be the tranny heat too).

the right side of tranny including the modulator , the 2 servo s , the vb , and the cooler lines that comes out the tranny are in very close proximity to the very hot exhaust and cat.con. ,,,,,

can this overheats the tranny ?

hello , once again ,, trouble ;)

today when i was replacing the v. modulator ( there was no tranny oil in v.hosse but the car was not shifting as it should ), the car was parked for nearly a month , engine was off , and when i just removed the old v. modulator through the access opening from inside , a huge amount of tranny oil drained to the road where the car is parked !!! , is it normal to get such volume when you just remove the v.m ???
