2000 Premium headunit with a blank display. Has anyone tried fixing this themselves? I did a search and saw that site that will do it for $120 but its not worth it IMO.

Have you checked the Useful Threads forum? I think there was a thread about DIY. I've tried it before... but just made it worse. :p

What? It made it more blank? :D

ive seen this before in a 2000 mountaineer my buddy had... obviously equivalent car. he was priced around the same. i dont know or remember if the display was an led display or a bulb lit panel but i think the only way to fix it is A) if its a bulb try and pop that thing open and see B) maybe try and go to a scrapyard and see if you can get the same HU for cheap bucks or C) pay for a new one. I know this sucks but i dont think there are many cheap options to fixing that. as far as section525 making it more blank? haha i dont see how thats possible... if its dead its dead there should be no inbetween.

sorry theres no great advice in there but if your skilled i would pop it open... youve got nothing to lose unless you totally f it up and cant play sound at all anymore.

i agree with this.my 98 mounty display didn't work, so i cracked er open, and found two little pins that had popped off the digital connection, so i opened up the glasss soldered them very carefully, and it works again. eVerything in my opinion can be fixed just take your time with it...
