Well its getting a bit cold here and i would love to have more then hurricane blower on my explorer. I had to replace the blower motor because that finally went out. Before it went out i was down too just the high speed defrost blower. Now i would love to fix/replace the resistor because i am guessing that is what need to be replace. Upon removing it it looks nothing like what the replacement is. The one i have currently is the little thing on the lower right hand corner of the blower proper. It looks like it has for lack of a better word a small disk drive on the back side ( which is inside the blower proper) Ok have any of you come across this? what is the fix for this exactly? I would love to get this done on Monday because i have the time to do it.

Do you have automatic temperature control? If that is the case you need an expensive unit to replace your blower resistor.

I will have to get photos of it to let everybody get their say on this one.

Ok i have found more information about my blower issue. Now i need to ask all you mechanical people if i am able to do a bit of switching on my truck. I have the automatic temperature control resister not the standard resister. The question is can i swap it for the MUCH cheaper standard blower resister. What would it take and how would i go about it. And just to let you know a new part from ford would set me back $439 and that just is not happening.

AFAIK, most people who have asked about this want to convert from manual to EATC operation; that is very complex because of the lack of existing sensors in a manual truck. Moving the other way might be easier, as you could just ignore the sensors, but you might have other wiring/control cable changes to move to manual. Just replacing the EATC blower motor controller with a manual blower resistor will not work, however.

Rather than new, look to a JY/Pull-a-Part yard to get a replacement blower motor controller. Good luck.

still looking

BOB i am already on that i have tried 2 pull yards and out of the 19 so far i have found the sum total of zero. I guess its only in the eddie bauer and from what i understand may be in the sport track.:eek:

As I understand it, EATC was standard on all EBs and Limiteds, and maybe some Mountaineers. It was optional on XLS and other Mountaineers.

Try some of the folks on this site. I have bought parts from kbabiak with great success; and there are always folks parting out Explorers in the various "Classified" forums. Good luck.
