DonB, I can't recall ever hearing anyone here replace the lighting source for the keypad. You may have to remove the interior door panel to access it though.

Just wondering whether it's a worth while effort.
Or will I wind up changing the whole number pad
module .... expensive !!

Don

I would imagine that the lighting is built into the keypad.

I have heard that inorder to get the light back, you have to change the entire keypad. But I know with the fog light switch, headlight switch, rear wiper switch, there is a SMALL bulb that you can replace, BUT you can't get the bulb anywhere! I got some out of an Explorer that was at my Local Junk yard. So I have all my switch's lit up except the Door Key Pad. I haven't even tried to look at it yet.

Ha - this is funny - about two years ago I remember thinking "hmm, I thought that the keypad was backlit...". (yes, now I feel like a moron). That bulb burnt out on me, and I didn't even realize it! If you ever figure out how to replace it, please post your result for the rest of us. Thanks,
-Scott

Keypad Light Replacement

Hi Everyone,
Did anyone figure out how to replace the burned out light behind the keyless entry keypad? I just came back from a Weekend Campout and Offroad trip and noticed right away thet the lights are out. I would imagine I would have to go in through the door panel. But it seems like the window would be in the way. Anyone tackle this yet? How about a dealer quote?

I haven't heard of anyone trying it yet. I would think that with the window in the up position it shouldn't be in the way, but I have never been taken my door apart.

I didn't even know that was supposed to light up! If anyone figures it out, please let us know!!

Hi All,
I just got off the phone with the Ford Dealer and the bulb apparently cannot be replaced you have to replace the whole keypad. Keypad Cost: $90.51 ! To do it yourself. I'll let you know how it goes.

:hammer:

Yep they sure are. $70 ! Twenty bucks cheaper!

So now that we know they're cheaper there...... do we know how to do it ourselves??

Also, is the code the same? Or do we have to learn a new code then?

The code is hard-wired into the RAP computer which is in the jack compartment. Changing the keypad won't change your factory 5-digit code. Changing the Rap module will.

replace with LED?

hello all, this seems to be a common problem for people. i do not have a backlit keypad, but i do have a ton of assorted leds, esp. designed for 12v systems. if someone could send me a broken unit, i would probably be able to retrofit the bulb with an LED which is impervious to vibration an has a useful life of 100,000 hours. if anyone is interested, i would fix the first one for free, just as a kind of test, then possibly charge for others. if you are interested, send me an email at blinkfn32@ameritech.net. this is not a scam, i am only lookin for broken keypads to fix.

How do you get this unit out? Cause I'd probably be interested...

Anyone try this yet?

I would love to put blue LEDs in my keypad but I'm scared I'll break it. Anyone tackle this job yet?
