2005 ford explorer xlt
well on my way to work i blew my engine. the connecting rod went thru my block and blasted apart my starter. I only have 147000 and just paid 2200 to have my trans rebuilt. I had a 2001 ford ranger before this and that was a v6 4.0 to and that had 188000 before the trans blew. when i pulled out the connecting rod since it was sticking thru my block it was missing one of the bolts and im figuring it wasnt torqued to spec, but i bought my truck used so i have no clue what i should do. I dont have the money to buy a rebuilt engine and trying to find a used engine is hard enough. does anybody have any options ?

Used engine is about the cheapest way to go. Just make sure to get one that is a proper match to your 2005. The v6 guys here could likely offer some insight, but I remember when I started working at the Ford dealer in 2009 (not there anymore) there was a 2001 getting a used engine installed which ran into trouble due to a midyear change in some configuration, or something not completely compatible between the engine and the chassis/electronics. It's been 4 years, so i can't remember what the issue was, only that there was one. Good luck! If you're lucky, you could be able to find a low-miles version from a much newer truck...
