2006 Ford Explorer
I got a code about my thermostat. I got this after going on a trip 250 miles
The new to me 06 Ford Explorer with 54,000 miles on it sat 8 hours. I start up for a return trip home and the light comes on after going 50 miles home... The needle never showed getting hot is stayed below normal..

I put a code reader on it and that is what it showed..
I got a thermostat had my mechanic friend of mine change it.
He pop the hood and tells me... Your engine/radiator has got Blue Devil in it.
Something must have happed.

He tells me it is a engine leak, head gasket sealer.. There were white spots around the radiator cap..
He tells me he was told sometimes the Factor puts it in??

Who knows about this and do fill me in..
What do I need to do?? SELL IT

I found this..
IMPORTANT NOTE: Blue Devil Engine and Cooling Sealant should not be used on any vehicle that cannot maintain an idle for at least 40 minutes without having to add coolant from over heating. It is not recommended for leaks that result from a busted seam.

*Not Recomemded For Vehicle's With Northstar Engines*

WOW nobody knows about Blue Devil?????

I've never heard of it. Blue devil was the mascot for a high school football team in my area.

Looked at the one star reviews on Amazon. Couple people had bad luck with it.

I have never, ever heard of the factory putting sealer additives like that into brand new engines. I don't believe that for a second. Well, I could see Chrysler doing it... :D

Subaru dealers were putting crap like this in some engines (not new engines) to deal with head gasket problem.

Your CEL coming on could be the cause of a faulty thermostat since you said the needle stayed below normal. I find it hard to believe you need a new head gasket with only 54K miles. It's possible but somewhat unlikely. I recommend change the coolant out if it has that crap in it. That stuff can cause more problems by plugging up coolant passages and such. Since you changed the thermostat, has the CEL came on?

No the light has not come on.. Last time I erased the code the light did not come back on untill I took the same 250 mile trip. I came back on on the way home..

Good Ideal change the Blue Devil fluid Duu Huu I should have thought of that.
I changed the stat will take the same trip back to see the Grandson next weekend...

As many radiator leaks I have read about It might have been put in there for that?????

Very possible if you have the V6. Just be sure to use the "gold" coolant. Ford charges an arm and leg.

What brand is that? Were do you get it?
I talk with my guy he told me if it was there for a reason to stop something leaking you want to keep it in there???? What do you think

I think you need a new guy.

Fix the leak- replace the rad if you need to... If you have the correct parts in there, there will be no leak to need that stuff for.

The gold coolant is sold at any auto parts store...

the guy you talked too wants money,

engines head gaskets have down size ports, stop leaks clogs them, costing a head job.

as for blue what ever i have never heard of it. no dealer can alter with out consent from the owner to add crap ford did not.
