Not sure if this is the right place for this or not since it really isn't a 4x4 trip. BUT, with that said.

Anyone have suggestions for a nice tour of the Blue Ridge Parkway? We would be hitting it in Cherokee, NC. Will be diving a Miata in September. Would like a 6 hour or so drive out of Townsend, NC. for the first day. We plan on concluding the Parkway on the second day. BUT, there is a skyline drive that is on the map that I'm interested in.

Anyone???

A Miata is the perfect car for the Tail of the Dragon.

and this is close to the Dragon and offers awesome driving and a skyline drive in one. I haven't been here before but I have 2 wheeler friends that enjoy it.

Is there a reason why you'll be there in September? A couple weeks later if you could and the leaves will be amazing and the temperature still comfortable.

I second waiting a few more weeks 'till the leaves turn. Not sure if you've been but if you haven't, you should probably stop by Lurray Caverns. If you've been to caves before, then Lurray might be a tad mundane but if you haven't, then it might be worth it.

My wife and I went to Skyline drive this year when the leaves were at their peak. Forget it, just to long a line to wait in. Then if you decide to go in, it moves at a snail's pace. We go about every year but just before peak. Also has some nice hiking trails that we do. Have plenty of pics if I can find them. But like IZ said, a few weeks later and the would be much more color.

You are correct, we've done the dragon 3 times as well as cherohala. A little too crowded for our taste.

We will most likely be going in late September or early October.

Thanks for the heads up. If it's stacked like that we will find something else to do.
