Okay I have searched but didnt come up with all the answers I need. I am making my own 1" BL pucks and need to know a few things. First, what diameter are all the plastic aftermarket pucks? Also, where does the puck go? Between the frame mount and upper bushing or between the upper bushing and body? Also with a 1" BL on a 91 will I need to do anything with the e-brake cable or will it be long enough? Anything else besides maybe the fan shroud to look out for clearance issues with only 1"? Thanks.

the diameter is about 3"...just measure the diameter of the top of the upper bushing. if you take a bushing off, you will see that the "puck" as you call it goes between the upper buching and the body. you may not have to move the e-brake, but dont know for sure. dont forget longer bolts, but the most important thing............

WHY ARE YOU MAKING YOUR OWN WHEN YOU CAN GET A 3" KIT FOR LIKE 90 BUCKS?

using pucks is ver insafe and its so cheap to buy a real kit, i have seen them go for under 50 on e-bay, so i would highly recommend just buying one. besides, 1" wont make much of a diff...its a waste if you ask me, just do a 2" or 3" kit.

I gotta agree, don't want something bad to happen. I would go with buying a kit.

I only need 1" to keep my tires from rubbing at full stuff. I dont need more BL, for 1 thing it wouldnt fit in the garage anymore. I dont want a 3" because of all the hassles and I dont need a 2" when 1" is more than enough for my setup. I am NOT using hockey pucks. The spacers will be solid aluminum and will be machined by me. Seems to me my spacers will be stronger than the bought plastic blocks and much better than the hockey pucks. And if you have wheeled with me or have seen my Explorer in person, I have VERY few aftermarket parts that I have bought. I make everything I need for my Explorer myself so I can make it custom to my needs.

Thanks for your help on the diameter, thats along the lines I was thinking.

sorry if i came off like a jerk, but i get so tires of seeing these body lift threads..yours seems pretty different though.

do you have a susp lift? what size tires are you running?

if you dont have a susp lift, you should be able to get your vehicle in the garaghe without too much pain. i made it through a parking garage that has a clearance of 6'9" with my 32" tires and 3" body lift, no problem.

another thought, i have heard of people calling up trailmaster or PA and buying some generic blocks for next to nothing...i know you make everything yourself, it may just save you time and energy.

you probably wont have to move the e-brake, if so you could just make a new bracket for it. as for the fan shroud, my kit didnt come with new brackets do i just ditched the shroud. our other ex has been running without one for a long time and no problems yet.

No prob. Thanks for your help. As for not fitting in the garage, I currently have about 5" to spare because of my roof rack with small tires. With slightly bigger tires and 3" BL it wouldnt go without chopping my roof rack. I have a 2" suspension lift and am getting 31's next week. I flexed the front suspension out at my house and measured and 31's are going to rub. I must be the only 2" lifted explorer that 31's rub  I am leading a group of local Explorers on a wheeling trip in a week and dont have time to wait for the BL to come in the mail. I have seen 1" BL kits somewhere for "mini-trucks" but would rather make my own.

yeah, that kinda suprises me. many 1st gens can get 31s at stock height without rub...you should be able to go 32" at 2"susp, but i suppose each vehicle is dif. and besides, most dont flex to test fit, they just mount and turn. my 32s rub a little on a left turn, but if i come into the driveway too fast, they rub bad....i need to trim more too though.

one reason i could clear the garage is that i dont have a roof rack, and dont want one. i did have to close my moonroof and take my cb antenna off though.
