boiling/bubling sound

yah umm after some driving shut it off i hear like a boiling noise. the other day i had some steam coming from my resivor. do i need a new thermostat?
how much work would that intail? if this is my problem im pretty sure this is my problem because my heater dont work very well either. my temp gauge fluctuates as well sometimes.

i looked yesterday and didnt see any

let it sit and run so pressure builds up in the system and look carefully squeeze and move the rad hoses and check around water pump and head gasket
