I was hoping someone could give me some help/tips on doing a small bondo job!

My grandmother has a small rust hole in the door of her old sentra and needs to have it repaired before it passes inspection so I'd like to fix it for her to save her some money!

She's not looking for it to look perfect but I'm sure I can do the job providing I have info prior to starting..ie..materials needed, proceedures..

can anyone help me?

thanks in advance

Well , for starters you have got to get some metal behind it. Body filler ( Bondo is actually a name brand )
does not fill holes.
Weld or braze metal over the hole first.
Then grind all the paint away. Body filler should be applied to bare metal only. 80 grit is best. Put a little mud ( filler ) on a clean piece of cardboard or some thing. A dab of hardener. With your spreader mix it up but , DO NOT stir. With your spreader go in a criss cross pattern pressing the mud into your cardboard, never flipping or lifting the mud. You want to avoid air bubbles in the mud.
Once your mud is all one color , spread it evenly and smoothly . Let it dry good and hard. Sand it down with 80 grit , finnish it in 180. It might take a few shots but that just boils down to how good you want it to look.

can it be done without putting metal in there?

You can also use some screen (plastic or metal) to fill the hole. This doesnt involve welding and as such wont last forever like welding will, but its OK for a quick fix that'll last about a year or two. They sell that screen stuff in the same area where they sell body filler.
