Bottom Line: Towing with a 2002

I have 2002 XLS V6 ex. The owners manual says that in my current configuration, I can tow 3500lbs. After that, the owners manual gets convoluted regarding towing capacities.

Does anyone know ALL the upgrades that are included in the tow package with a V6 ex? How much weight can the truck actually tow with a tow package? What are the weak links that limit the explorer's towing capacity?

Towing package should include lower gearing, trans cooler, and a 2" receiver. You're 1 1/4" is only rated for 3500lbs although that's the safe rating. 5 or 6 is perfectly fine. Trans is another weak link. Instal a cooler and temp gauge if you plan on towing far and or heavy loads.
