I have about 700 miles on my 4.0 SOHC Jasper Re-man engine.

After it warms up you hear a tapping sound (almost sounds similar to a mini diesal engine). I figured it was either the cam-chains or the cassette. But every problem i hear about the cassette goes away after 30 seconds, where-as my tap doesnt start until a few minutes after the engine's been running.

500 mile oil-change: no visible metal. oil looked clean.

Used a stethescope to try and pinpoint the source: All i can tell is its lowdest in the very rear of the engine (pretty much exactly where the bell-housing bolts up). Any ideas? Im not sure of the internals under there....

And one last thing, when i put the stethescope on the bottom of my oil pan and directly in the midde, i didnt hear a clanking sound but it was some pretty loud activity in there- is that just the noise of the oil being sucked up?

Thanks guys.. i need so re-assurance here cause this is driving me nuts! Ill be giving Jasper a call soon probably- but its hard to find time right now.

I was gonna say check the lifters, but then you said it was around the bottom half. And yes with a stethescope it is noisy on the bottom half.

Does it get louder under acceleration?

I cant hear it at all under acceleration. Im not sure if it goes away or if the engine noise drowns it out.

There is a recall through ford on cam chain tentioners.I think your year could be one of the vehicals.

its a brand new jasper remanufactured engine. cam chain tensioners shouldnt be the issue. Also, i ruled them out by using the stethescope and locating where the noise is originating from.

Ok i have a feeling its my oil pump. Anyone agree that this could be the cause?

-Bottom/rear of the engine
-no noise when engines cold
-get louder as engine warms up, once engine is at running temp it doesnt increase anymore

Could the oil pump create a noise like this? Im not really sure how they work on my engine-- id assume its gear driven... this sucks :(
