I have a 95 xlt and the abs has been acting up lately.I put new pads on the front last week and cleaned the abs sensors with a wire brush, put some wheel bearing grease on(which I thought was the right thing to do) and took it out for a test drive. At first the abs did not engage like it was but now every time I come to a stop on dry pavement it is engaging and driving me nuts.

Not sure what to do,would new sensors fix the problem?

I'm ready to disconnect the abs but would rather fix it.

Thanks in Advance,

Does the truck pull to one side or the other when the ABS activates? Did you check the rear speed sensor that is mounted on the rear differential?

What did you grease? The sensors themselves, or where it sits on the steering knuckle? There shouldn't be any grease on the sensors.

There is a TSB for false ABS activation for your truck, I'll see if I can pull it up and post a copy.

If one of the front sensors is causing the false ABS activation, the truck will pull to the opposite site while braking.

I'll try to post a copy of the TSB.

Here's the TSB for 95-97 Explorers that discusses False ABS Activation.

Wow! What a great Forum. Just the info I was looking for. At least I have some concrete info when I approach my dealer's service department.

Thank you all.
