This is more for the newer X owners (unless the old X's have the 4wheel disc brakes? Not quite sure never noticed) but have any of you ever painted your brake calipers a different color? I was thinking of painting mine red or silver, to make them stand out. If anyone has done this can they explain the procedure and how long it took them? Thanks!

Take a look at Dead Link Removed

Be sure to post some pics when you are done.

Thanks! It's gonna be a week or so before I even get to the store to get the paint so be patient!

Looks nice but you need "Explorer" stickers on those not Porsche.

Hmmmm... silver. Sounds like an Idea. You think if I do a good tape job I could paint them without taking them off? Fronts I'm not worried about taking off but american car companies suck at making rear discs so I would much rather not mess with them. I have high temp. silver paint... will that work? I think its good to 3,000 deg.

why would you not want to take the rear calipers off? it wont be any more trouble than taking off the front. its not gonna hurt anything... and yes, the high temp silver should work fine.

Ah.... getting the materials today, then school will be out in 2 weeks and I'll be started on these bad boys. I'll paint them the night before I leave to cedar point and let them sit all day.

I bet if you check eBay or maybe a local graphix shop they maybe able to make you some. If you find a local shop then you can really customise the sticker. Always a bonus.:D

Damnit, couldn't get to the store today. Hopefully will tomorrow.

Painted mine silver today. Actually it was aluminum color because thats all I had for hi-temp paint. I also painted the rotor flat black just to cover the surface rust. Tell me what you think. Oh... I'm gonna be getting new pads soon so I'm gonna try to get some red ones to put in there.

they look awesome. one question...when u paint the rotors.. dont u have to sand the surface? and whne u do, dont you change the surface of the rotor .. and doesnt the black paint change the ability of the pad to grab onto the rotor? sorry if these are dumb questions

I didnt worry about it. I just put covered my truck with blankets and wrapped a blanket around the back of the rotor and sprayed away. Then I took it down my driveway and back up and that scrapped the paint off the rotor.

I taped mine completely off, I didn't paint the rotor, just the caliper. And I used red engine paint. If you click on the link in my sig. for the 31" BFG you can kinda see my calipers.

Yeah, so by doing this I think I messed up my rear brakes! They are draging bad. I dont know whats going on. I'll have to make an appt. and have them checked out. I noticed a little squeaking lately and then one day it smelled really bad and tonight I heard it while I was coasting down the road for a few seconds and then it just stopped. I think it might be the E brake. I'll find out soon enough. Better get on the horn tomorrow.

It might be all of the black paint burning off!

That is long gone. That was gone 10 seconds after I used the brakes. I had to tie back the e brake cable on the drivers side for my rims so now i'm thinking it might have something to do with that.

yea, check the e-brake cable. i forgot all about it, but i did the same thing when i first got my wheels. tied back the e-brake cable to tight, put it in a bind, so then it acted like the e-brake was "barely on". i had to go back and re-tie it so it was just barely moved away from the tire. check this before you take it to the shop.
